More rain, wing challenge and a wedding!

Last P-Day was the most fun P-Day on the mission! We grabbed our groceries and Elder Kahle wanted to go to Best Buy to find a new iPad case. Well iPad mini 2 are way out of "style" so they had no cases. We got so lost in that store! I was feeling so Amish because everything just looked so foreign. That’s when we took a picture with all the Beats headphones on last week! We found the exit after getting lost in Best Buy and we went adventuring around down by the American River. We probably hiked about 5 miles! It was far but it was super fun! I won the rock skipping competition so that was cool, I skipped the rock 9 times. We found lots of old tree houses that were in these massive trees. We climbed up one and it felt like it was going to fall apart so we stopped at 1. There were maybe 3 tree houses there though. Of course, we played some basketball and emailed home!

Tuesday, we did Service at the Fair Oaks park. I felt like I was in Idaho again because the weather was crazy. One second it was warm and sunny and then out of nowhere it started pouring rain! All of Tuesday we went to members’ homes and asked for referrals/service opportunities. It has been a little bit of a struggle to find new investigators who are truly interested. Elder Kahle is from Arizona and one of his members from down there was in Fair Oaks for business and took us to Pink Berry ice cream! He was super funny and asked some hilarious Mission questions! We had Correlation Meeting with our Ward Mission Leader and talked for about 2 hour on how we can explode the missionary work in the Del Campo Ward! We got some good ideas so hopefully we can make things happen!

Wednesday, it was pouring outside! We honestly didn't dare go outside. We setup appointments and made phone calls instead of biking around and no one being outside to talk to. We had interviews with President too! I always love being able to President! Nothing to serious came up when we talked. He asked a lot about my District and how I like being District Leader! It’s been a blast what can I say! We also got to see the Easter Initiative video. It was a good video but I can’t give spoilers. I gave a training with Sister Jardine while everyone else was being interviewed. We ate dinner with the coolest family ever Wednesday. They actually took time to get to actually know us and it just seemed liked they really cared! The spirit was strong in that dinner to I think that’s why it was so good! I was happy and amped out of my mind after that dinner!

Thursday I gave another wonderful district meeting I guess! The APs were on exchanges with Zone Leaders. It just so happened that Elder Henderson was on exchanges with them! Heck yeah it was my mission Dad! Literally my favorite missionary was at my District meeting! It made me so happy! I don't know if I have already shared this but 11/14 missionaries in my zone go home in 3 months! Literally everything anyone talks about is college and marriage! Geez! They make it so hard to stay focused! The mission will lose 1/3 of the missionaries this summer! That’s about 50 missionaries leaving the next 3 months! Elder Kahle, the Zone Leaders and I did a blitz in the Sisters area and we found some good people for them to teach!

Friday, we started the morning off planning for our week. We made some pretty bomb plans to help the ward and hopefully get them more involved in missionary work. We also got our apartment inspected by the Senior Missionaries. This apartment hasn’t been inspected for 8 months but we still passed!! We are staying clean! My momma would be proud! That night we went to Buffalo Wild Wings with the Zone Leaders and did the Blazin Challenge. It was a horrible idea- it was super-hot! March Madness was cool though! We talked to the waitress at Buffalo and she said there was a ton of talk going around about Lonzo Ball and his dad talking smack! I remember playing Lonzo Ball at a Vegas Tournament! I thought it was crazy that he was in the March Tournament. I hope I will be able to play ball in 18 months.

Saturday, we felt inspired to go and see the Recent Converts in the Ward. We pulled up to the house and none of the cars were there but we knocked the door anyways. Haley was home by herself and said that she wanted to have a lesson super bad! We had a lesson about trying to recognize the spirit and it was a miracle because that is exactly what she wanted to hear about! After the lesson, we were able to go to our investigators Wedding, Karl and Leah. It was fun to go to their wedding but it scared me and I no longer want to get married for another 400 years! I’m not ready for that! Saturday night we had to change our names on Facebook and tons of missionaries were freaking out! Apparently Salt Lake told us to change the names! I think something big it going to go down at General Conference.

Sunday was good.  We went to church and all of Karl's family came! We had like 15 nonmembers at church it was crazy. Gospel Principles class was packed but it was so cool to see everyone there! At dinner, the husband is a Mechanical Engineer and it was sweet to talk to him and get some pointers!

We got pulled over on our bikes because we ran a yellow light on our bikes! It was a huge intersection and bikes are too slow to make it all the way through like a car! The cop pulled us over and luckily, he was a member so we didn't get a ticket but he told us to just be careful because people are crazy drivers! I also was headed to an appointment and a squirrel ran out in front of my bike and I ran it over and killed it! Oops! We got pretty wet in all the rain this week!

Another week in the field!

Last P-Day was actually sweet! We mixed it up a little bit! We still shopped at WinCo! We went to the Sunrise Mall and it was actually pretty fun. It’s a small mall but it was the best shopping area I think in the Carmichael area. Yes, I bought new sweat shorts! I had too! We went to the Fair Oaks park and played basketball, botchy ball, and football! It was super-hot but it was a good tan for all of us missionaries. We ate dinner at a member’s house that night. The member makes 3D pictures and frames them! It’s the coolest thing ever I think I might get my picture taken with it! There was a lot of sicknesses and surgeries going on in the ward!

Wednesday, we did service like we usually do spreading mulch around! It was a different location this week! We went to Phoenix Park instead of Fair Oaks Park. The biggest focus right now is finding new investigators! Elder Kahle is a sweet companion and we are killing it talking with everyone! We probably talk to 50 people at least on the streets every day! It’s so awesome! A lot of good things are going to happen I can tell! We got swarmed but this group of 15 gothic kids! They were super nice and asked crazy questions about the church! They were not interested in the Book of Mormon but thought all of our answers made sense.

Thursday morning Elder Kahle and I spent 3 hours at the church organizing the Area Book on the iPads. There were lots of people who do not live in the ward anymore or investigators that didn't even have street addresses. It was a long task but so worth it in the end! We spent some time with the Recent Converts in the Ward so Elder Kahle could learn more about them and get to know them. We had dinner at a member’s home, who made all homemade Chinese food! It was super good! My fortune cookie said," There are 365 days in a year. May all 365 of your dreams come true" it was pretty cool! I believe that one dream a day keeps Satan away? We have officially started a list of key people to see for Auxiliaries and ward members. The work is coming along nicely!

Friday was Saint Patrick’s Day. I swear everyone was in the grumpiest mood! Literally every person we talked to got rid of us! No one wanted to talk! It was interesting. We are so straight up with people sometimes too that there is no way they can't misunderstand us. I gave District Meeting on Friday instead of Thursday because of Transfers. Again, another District Meeting in the books. All the missionaries said they enjoyed it and they learned from it. I’m starting to get to the point where I don't believe them or I’m starting to actually believe that am good at conducting these meetings.

The warm weather is sucking the energy out of my I feel like I'm literally exhausted! The members we ate dinner with threw a huge party! People from all over the Stake came and it was crazy! We actually had to leave because people were going to insane even for the missionaries.

Saturday, we did Team-ups with the Zone Leaders. We taught our progressing investigator the Plan of Salvation. Saturday was a long day! Lots of contacting and lots of NOs! I ran over a squirrel on my bike! I was just biking along minding my own business and it jumped out of the bushes and I ran it over. It was straight dead! Oops!

Emailing keeps getting harder and harder! I will try my best to keep them interesting! We went to Best Buy today so Elder Kahle could get a new iPad case and we all got trucked out of our minds. We felt Amish going through that store with all the technology stuff! Literally thought I was going to die!

Transfer week!

Last P-Day we had Zone activities and played volleyball and human fuse-ball! I called the office Monday morning and I WILL be getting a new bike sometime this week! It just has to come in the mail! We had a Leadership Meeting. We set a goal as a Zone to find 16 new investigators for that week!

Tuesday, we had some good connections with some of our investigators. Two of our investigators has offered to have us over for dinner and want to be on our dinner calendar rotation. It was super sweet! We ate dinner at this member’s house and they have a 19-year-old daughter (who my companion is fond of) she brought four of her friends over and it was the weirdest dinner I have ever had!  The parents talked about marriage the whole time. They weren't suggesting anything with us and the girls at the table but the topic of marriage was everywhere! It felt like a YSA lecture! We ended the night having Ward Correlation Meeting with all the Auxiliaries. It was a super bomb meeting and all the Auxiliaries were willing and excited to work on missionary work! The ward is starting to bloom, I'm so excited!! After the meeting the High Priest Group Leader told me that "a wave of missionary work has spread through the ward and everyone is noticing the difference you are making Elder Nelson" Heck Yeah! I live for those little praises! I was more motivated to work harder than ever!

Wednesday morning, we got the LDS media app approved for missionaries on our iPads. That app is so cool! It has way better videos than the gospel library! Some of those videos literally teach our whole lessons in about 1 minute! That app is stealing missionaries thunder! My replacement bike got a flat tire while we were out and about! We walked back to our apartment because we were unable to get a hold of a member to pick us up! We walked maybe 3 miles home. One member gave us a call back so we got a ride to our appointment from our apartment. The rest of the day we tried to hitch rides around with people because we had no bikes with us! It was a weird day!

Thursday I gave another District Meeting! Everyone said it was a great meeting. I talked about us becoming like Jesus Christ by teaching the same way he does and did! We used actual phrases and questions that Jesus Christ himself used in the meeting! It was super cool! We ate dinner at the Massey home. We had the senior couple missionaries, service missionaries, ward missionaries, and then us as full-time missionaries over for dinner! That was cool to see how everyone can serve the Lord is different ways but all have the same goal!

Friday, we had exchanges with the Zone Leaders. We went into their area in Carmichael Ward! We had all positive contacts and passed out maybe 10 Book of Mormons that day! It was Bomb!! We had a lesson with a guy named Larry. He was not all the way there. He said he took all the pills he had in his house. He literally was lost in the sauce! We were laughing during that lesson because he wouldn't listen and then change the subject! At the end of the day the Zone Leader said it was an awesome exchange and they wish I could be in their area to help find more investigators!

Saturday was one of the busiest days of the whole mission! We went and cleaned the church building at 8:30-11! And then moved a lady move furniture out of her mansion house from 11:30-1! Helped an investigator move into our ward from Fair Oaks 3rd Ward from 1:30-4! Ate dinner at 5-6! And the rest of the day Proselyted! It was crazy! I was exhausted!

Sunday was great! It was all about the women in our lives and the great role they play! It was super awesome topic and makes me happy for an amazing mom, grandma, aunts, cousins, etc.! I’m hoping one day my wife will be on that list as well! There was lots of good tips/pointers for a healthy relationship with husbands and wives! It was a great service! Sunday night we watched the President Eyring and Elder Holland face2face with the youth in our ward! It was super good!

Now Monday was the best day of them all! My new companion is Elder Kahle from American Fork Utah! He was previously a Zone Leader with Elder Henderson, my trainer! The first thing we did together was sing to the new missionaries who came through the mission office and helped them pack their cars to their new areas. All the sisters that came in this transfer are going home the same time I do! I can remember my first day of the mission! Does not seem like it was 6 months ago! The first night Elder Kahle and I had together, we got a lot done! I’m so amped out of my mind for this transfer!

Stolen bike!!

This week was insane, ridiculous, and magnificent!

Last Monday was wonderful! Got to play some ball like normal! The new thing around the mission is missionaries buying Silver coins. Its super weird but lot of missionaries have spent over $100 on silver. It’s an abomination to God to seek for riches before the kingdom of God! We actually had some extra time and took a nap on P-Day too, it was great! Elder Pastor and I had a first super good lesson together. The investigators, Karissa and Mike, actually soaked in the Plan of Salvation and want to learn more! It was awesome! We had a Leadership Meeting and the other district leader in the zone didn't show up so that was weird! He wouldn’t answer his phone or anything!

Tuesday, we spread more mulch around at the Fair Oaks Park. That service activity is getting old. We spend 2 hours in the morning doing nothing but spreading wood chips around. We were able to meet with a couple Less active families in the ward Tuesday evening and they all committed to come back to church. It was cool to see their perspective change and them want to come back to church.

Wednesday was super warm it was about 70 degrees all day! I didn't use a sweater I just had my white shirt on and was getting a nice tan! I’m so ready for warm weather and no more rain! We had a lesson with a family about the temple and eternal marriage. The wife 100% agrees and knows it is true but the husband is iffy about it the whole concept. The worst part is the husband refuses to pray and find out if what we are sharing is true! That family will get baptized if the husband can agree with something!!! I watched the Meet the Mormons movie again and just the part about Anthony and his mom! Funny, I bawled my eyes out again! I don't know why I decided to watch that again- just did!

Thursday, we did exchanges with the Assistants. They are in my District and so as a District leader it is my responsibility to go on exchanges with them. All four missionaries spent 24 hours in the Del Campo area and it was super fun! I was with Elder Schenk and that man is awesome! I actually enjoyed going out and working because he would make a conscious effort to talk to people and work hard! We planned in about 5 people to see the whole day. Our goal was to talk to literally every soul we saw even if they were in their house through a window or a person way down the street the complete opposite way of our direction. We estimated that we talked to 85 people that day on the streets! The funniest part about that is not a single person was interested in learning more! We got rejected 85 times! Oh man! It honestly was a blast! We were so straight forward with people and did not beat around the bush at all and people still refused! Crazy! After the exchanges, we always do an evaluation afterwards. Elder Schenk said that I am an awesome District Leader and an even better missionary! Hard work is paying off I guess because some people are seeing it!

Friday, we had Zone Training from the Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders! President and Sister Jardine came to the meeting as well! I think the Zone Leaders were scared/nervous! They focused on Commitments we leave with investigators and companionships still having daily goals! After the meeting, I saw I had a package from the fam. It was the “6 month out package” and it was so awesome! Best package I have gotten on the mission so far! Very clever mother Nelson! Between the exchange and the package, I felt so rejuvenated and ready to work harder than ever! I let my companion know that I was going to become his worst enemy because I'm going to be doing everything right and I'm not letting him hold me back. Friday night as we were biking back home on Madison and San Juan, we heard this truck drive by and yell something at us and then we heard a huge gunshot noise! We weren't 100% sure if they just tried to drive by shoot us and just missed or if it was just a noise the truck made?? The truck was fairly new maybe a 2010 so I don't think it was a backfire or anything like that! It was scary!

Saturday morning I woke up my companion at 6:30am by turning on every light in the apartment and banging pots and pans together like that vine of the mom who does it to her kids! "I DONT GET SLEEP CAUSE OF YALL, YALL DONT GET SLEEP CAUSE OF ME!" He hated it but I didn't care! I grabbed his clothes and threw them to him and we were able to go to the gym in the apartment complex! I finally got a good workout! I decided that I would try to eat better and exercise harder! That will help me not feel so bad! We did service in the morning cleaning some garbage around someone house and taking down an old shed! That reminded me of the house grandpa and I would do! It was fun! After that we did service at this lady's house. We did her back lawn because it was a forest! This lady had the biggest dog I have ever seen! She had a Bull Mastiff. It was the size of a mastiff and had a body like a bull dog! It was literally more ripped and bigger than me! Coolest dog to play fetch with though! It looked like a small bear running around!

Sunday was an awesome day! We had that family we talked about temples and eternal marriage with show up to church! It was fast and testimony meeting and I know that they felt the spirit and I know that the husband had to feel something that hopefully inspired him to read and pray! They even stayed for 2nd hour and listened to the gospel principles lesson on prophets. What a perfect topic because the husband isn't sure about Joseph Smith! We went home with about 7 million treats from members after church! We literally are loaded I don't know what else we need! We went to Karl's house and investigator who is getting married to a member and he straight forward said he wanted to get baptized. We taught the first lesson and put him on date for baptism!!! Heck Yeah! They get married March 25th and his baptism will be April 8th a week after general conference. We have another lesson with him Wednesday! I always joke with Elder Pastor because I have been telling him that I want a baptism in the Del Campo ward super bad! Well I finally got an answer to my many prayers it just came at a cost.....yeahh after the lesson we walked outside and MY BIKE WAS STOLEN! Hahaha! My bike was on the porch next to the door and Elder Pastors bike was on the driveway! But my bike still got stolen and his didn't get touched! I wasn’t even mad because Karl wants to be baptized. We put a report to the sheriff’s office and today I will talk to the office about getting a new one! The fact that my bike was stolen and someone actually wanted to get baptized felt so awesome and strange at the same time that I became so hyper! I straight was dancing everywhere like the freak I am! I officially am having a blast out here on the mission again! I feel like I learned how to balance out hard things with things that make me happy!

Elder Nelson down n out!
